The University of Kentucky Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (UKVDL) is a full service animal health diagnostic facility. UKVDL performs testing to diagnose animal diseases as well as to safeguard the health of the animal population in Kentucky, and may provide an early warning system for impending epidemics. Maintaining animal health and well being is part of the "One Health Initiative", and also fosters public health. The UKVDL also performs tests for regulatory purposes and animal export sales requirements.

  • UKVDL does not perform euthanasia, and does not provide carcass disposal services.
  • UKVDL has developed problem-based panels to assist practitioners with a focused diagnostic test selection that should increase the likelihood of an accurate diagnosis of horses. These are:

    1. Diarrhea/septicemia in foals.
    2. Diarrhea in adult horses.
    3. Respiratory problems in horses.
